Seniors at Jefferson County Public Schools thinking about their post-high school plans are invited to College One-Stop Shop, hosted by Evolve502 and Southpaw, a Taco Bell franchisee.
The event will be from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 at Taco Bell, 8602 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Ky. 40258.
JCPS seniors will be able to:
- Complete or check the status of an Evolve502 Scholarship application
- Speak with representatives from Kentucky Community and Technical College and Simmons College of Kentucky
- Set-up a free FAFSA appointment with the KentuckianaWorks College Access Center
Students who attend will be entered to win prizes from Southpaw. The restaurant will also be accepting applicants for open positions.
“We’re thankful for this partnership with Southpaw as it allows us to get into neighborhoods and meet with students and families as they explore college options. We know many students have questions about attending and paying for college and we want to ensure that every student has the direct support they need as they apply for college,” said Kennina Porter, Evolve502 Scholarship and Student Success Director. “Meeting face-to-face with our team and partners is a great way to jumpstart the college application process.”
“Southpaw is proud to support the Evolve502 Scholarship as an investment in the education of our student-team members and youth all across Jefferson County,” said Jamie Long, Southpaw Field HR Business Leader.
The Evolve502 scholarship allows eligible Jefferson County Public Schools students to begin postsecondary studies tuition-free at any Kentucky Community and Technical College or Simmons College of Kentucky, to pursue an associate degree or career credential, or take 60 hours of college credit. It is not a merit-based scholarship. Students receive the scholarship by meeting the eligibility requirements and completing required steps outlined at evolve502.org/scholarship. Evolve502 covers tuition and fees after federal and state financial aid is applied.
In addition to the scholarship, students from households earning less than $40,000 annually are eligible for opportunity grants of $1,000 per semester (maximum $2,000 annually) to assist with non-tuition related costs of attending college.
Evolve502 is currently accepting scholarship applications from eligible students in the JCPS Class of 2022. Students can view eligibility and apply now through July 15 at evolve502.org/scholarship. Students are encouraged to complete the application early so staff can connect students with resources to complete college applications and the FAFSA. More than 650 students have applied since the application opened Oct. 1. For questions about the scholarship, email scholarships@evolve502.org.
